I practice a wonderful application of Hypnotherapy called Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. This practice has been developed from the successes of Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and the very latest research into how the mind works. This creates a powerful, up-to-date method of Psychotherapy that is informed by the latest findings in neuroscience. We call this method “Solution Focused” as there is no better explanation; we will focus together on the solutions to your problems without having to dwell on them.
A big part of what I do is to talk about how the brain works, how our problems are created and protected in the mind. Helping people understand the effects of stress on the brain and relate it to their own lives can already help people to make important changes.

What is Hypnosis?
One of the tremendous advantages of using this form of Therapy is that we also use Trance, or Hypnosis, in order to access the subconscious mind. In this state you will achieve a deep level of relaxation while your mind is allowed the freedom to resolve issues that lie beyond the capabilities of the conscious mind. Under my guidance you will be able to use this natural mind state to focus on the solutions you require in order to grow and develop into that person you wish to be.
What should I expect?
At the initial consultation we will be able meet and discuss your issue. Over this meeting I will gather some information about you and then explain how your mind is working in relation to your issue. I will also explain more about brain functions and how they relate to symptoms in other areas of our lives, this in itself can be extremely helpful. We will plan your treatment together and can discuss any questions you have regarding the Therapy and Hypnosis. I will also give you a complimentary CD or MP3 to listen to between our sessions. Further sessions will last for approximately 50 minutes and will begin with Solution Focused Psychotherapy techniques followed by Hypnotherapy.

I really enjoy helping people to give up smoking, and more recently, vaping. In this one-off session we’ll properly investigate your smoking habit, why it may have been created and why you hold on to it now. From there we will go into why parts of our mind create such powerful propaganda, deep emotions and distracting urges that keep us smoking. We’ll get a picture of the intellectual strengths you already have which will make quitting far easier than you imagine. We finish the session with hypnosis, this undermines the ideas that have kept you smoking; reinforcing your strengths and emphasising the clarity you already possess to be a non-smoker.
Stress and Anxiety
Most of the people that I see struggle in some way with the effects of stress and the anxiety it causes. Sometimes this can be felt in the body, or maybe it shows through in your confidence in some area, either way Anxiety can really hold people back.
Humans evolved by being able to be hyper-vigilant through many dangerous situations and hostile environments. Although modern society has created far more safety for us, we still have these primitive parts of the mind that want to ensure our survival. Unfortunately our primitive brains can easily get confused, they also deal with emotions, so unhelpful patterns of behaviour can be created.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy offers a way to break down the patterns of the past and move your life forwards. We can take some time together to be calm, changing your behaviour by focusing on how you want your life to be.
Irrational fears are also because of the primitive mind’s ability to get things muddled. Whether it is getting on a flight, being in a room with a spider, heights or maybe even buttons, having a phobia can be debilitating.
In a handful of sessions we can reduce the stress that makes the phobia more powerful. We will change your relationship with difficult memories and the fear they hold for you. This allows us to look at how you want things to be instead, a life where you do not have to avoid doing the things you want to do.

All of us hold behavioural patterns that involve eating, we need to eat in order to survive!
When life becomes stressful we find ways to cope. When we are coping well we can find positive solutions – having a good time with our friends and loved ones, being involved in hobbies or sports, doing those things that we enjoy and being able to think positively.
If the primitive mind helps us to find ways of coping, sometimes we can get muddled up in our relationship with food. Often it can be easy to develop repetitive behavioural patterns that can become difficult and unhealthy.

Again this is an area in which we have created a way to cope with life’s difficulties through the muddle of our primitive minds.
If we are able to support ourselves and interact with others in a good way, and be able to do things that we enjoy, our brains have a nice steady flow of neurotransmitters. In essence these are the chemicals involved in being happy.
When life becomes too difficult to produce these happy brain chemicals, we can start to look for shortcuts. Whether it is drinking, gambling, drugs, sex, food or even over working our brains can find these things light us up really easily.
Hypnotherapy can be really successful in breaking down these unhelpful patterns. Together we can look at how to start producing neurotransmitters in a natural way and looking at how different life could be.
I have been practicing Mindfulness for several years and have been trained in Mindfulness based therapy techniques. These work so well in my clinical practice, enhancing the Hypnotherapy work while bringing a sense of peace and acceptance to the changes people undertake.
Although I will be guiding you through the therapy process it will be you that will find your solutions and envisage how to bring them into your life. As you are the expert on your problems you also have the expertise in leaving them behind you.
